About Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis (TA) is about building self-esteem and resilience through self-awareness.
It helps you gain insight into your thought and behaviour patterns, and clarity on how to move forward towards the life you choose. Transactional Analysis was founded in the late 1950s by Eric Berne. His approach is based around a simple phrase that you may be familiar with:
I’m OK, you’re OK.
That doesn’t mean TA therapists look at a troubled person and think they’re OK. It means the client is `OK by them’. The individual will always be accepted and respected.
The phrase also refers to how we see ourselves – and that, in turn, affects our relationships with other people. Looking at life from the `I’m OK, you’re OK’ position, we are neither inferior nor superior to other people. We accept others as equals, and we reach acceptance of ourselves.
TA is a collaborative and practical process. Its aim is to identify what’s gone wrong, then to develop tools which help change self-damaging patterns in order to live a happier, more fulfilling life.
